Fred White is a musician and drummer who has played with a number of notable artists, including Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, and Earth, Wind & Fire. He is the brother of fellow drummer Ralph Johnson, and the two have often worked together as part of Earth, Wind & Fire’s touring and recording lineup. White has also played on numerous recordings as a session drummer, and has contributed to a number of film and television soundtracks. He is known for his versatility and groove, and has received critical acclaim for his work as a drummer and percussionist.
Born and his Education
White was born in Los Angeles, California in 1954 and began playing drums at a young age. He took lessons from drumming legends such as Billy Cobham and Roy Haynes, and later studied music at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

After completing his studies, White began touring with a number of jazz and funk bands, including the West Coast All-Stars and the Electric Flag.

Award and Hit Streaks
When he was 19 in 1974, White became a member of Earth, Wind & Fire. The band won six Grammys and was awarded for best R&B instrumental performance went to Earth, Wind & Fire in 1977 for “Runnin’,” and they received it again in 1979 for “Boogie Wonderland.”
In the 1980s, White joined Earth, Wind & Fire as a touring drummer, and has since played on several of the band’s recordings, including the albums “Heritage” and “Powerlight.”
White contributed to eight Earth, Wind & Fire albums and several of the band’s biggest hits, including “September,” “Saturday Night,” and “Shining Star,”. Earth Wind & Fire was admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
